Somatic Experiencing® is a form of therapy aimed at relieving the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental and physical trauma-related health problems. The nervous system becomes compromised during and after a trauma event due to the result of the body's inability to complete a natural “threat response.” The nervous system then, cannot regulate itself without intervention. When we bring curiosity and attention to the body’s somatic responses,using narrative and resources to complete the self protective response that didn’t get completed, then individuals can shift neurobehavioral patterns and symptoms subside.
